Matt Smith
General Manager/Youth Hockey Director
Welcome to the September Newsletter. There are many exciting things going on at the rink. You’ve probably heard by now that we have a new name, UTC Ice. New management took over the rink in February. Since the rink is widely known in San Diego as UTC we thought, what the heck, let’s name it UTC Ice. We designed a snazzy new logo to rebrand ourselves as the premier ice rink facility in Southern California.

The facility itself is going through major improvements from the new pro shop, to better quality ice, new skate counter, bathrooms, you name it we’re doing it. We’re only weeks away from installing new rubber floors throughout UTC Ice. Personally, I’m looking forward to the plasma screens we’re putting in above the skate counter so we can pipe in Center Ice, the all hockey channel. Don’t fret figure skaters we will be showing all kinds of events related to ice sports like the Olympics and World Championships.
Calling all Public Session Skaters! Friday and Saturday nights are going to heat up as we add to our sound system and install a whole new computer operated theatrical lighting system. When the sun goes down the rink will light up!
New Hockey Mascot

UTC Ice has a new mascot for In-House program. It’s mean and tough and super cool. Our new name is the Piranhas! Piranhas are fast, feisty and attack in packs, just what our young hockey teams are all about.
UTC Ice has decided to go in an exciting new direction with our In-House hockey program. We’ve got 2 well matched teams this year. It’s going to make for a fun and competitive program! As we build our skills we will be inviting guest teams to come and play our guys. For now the games will be evenly matched making for some exciting hockey!

Epic Edge Synchro Teams

Epic Edge is proud to announce that we have a complete ISI team and will be eligible to compete this season! They will be starting their program this month and will debut it at the UTC Ice holiday show.
We had tons of fun at our Epic Edge End of Summer Beach Bonfire! La Jolla Shores was the perfect place to cool off and have some team bonding time. We even had s’mores and two of our teammates were turned into mermaids! What a fun time!!!
