Special Needs Hockey League

UTC Ice is proud to be heading up the brand new Special Needs Hockey League. The League will consist of kids with various disabilities such as Autism, Down Syndrome and other cognitive disorders. We are aiming to form one or two teams made up of kids from 7 to 12 years of age.

ASHA-Logo.png

There are 2 established Special Needs teams in Southern California. Both Valencia and Panorama City have developed successful programs and with the help of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or ASHA our program will prove to be successful as well. To read up more on ASHA go to asha.org.

Please help get the word out for our Special Needs Open house happening April 13th at 4pm. Participants will have to get to UTC Ice about 45 minutes early to sign in and suit up. Currently we are looking for equipment donations to suit up our team. Please contact Matt Smith at 858-452-9110 ext 4 or Lisa Granet at 619-977-3937.

Junior Figure Skating

The beginner/intermediate or Junior camp as we call it, runs from 9am to 4pm and for a small fee can be extended to 5pm to accommodate working parents. Each week has a different theme from “Pop Star” to “Wildlife” week to keep it interesting and fun for those kids attending multiple weeks.

The day’s itinerary includes a technical skating lesson, arts and crafts, free time to skate and many other super fun events.

Lunch and snacks are provided daily by Tender Greens. Tender Greens is the healthy choice for organic and fresh food.

Junior Hockey Camp

The beginner/intermediate hockey camp will run alongside the Junior Skating Camp from 9am to 4pm and also offers extended child care. Players will get on ice instruction and off ice fitness exercise classes and games as well as free on ice time and movie hour. Lunch and snacks will also be provided by Tender Greens.

Advanced Figure Skating Camp

This camp is for figure skaters who test and compete or aspire to in the near future. We generally start kids off in this camp who have at least passes Delta ISI nationally recognized tests through to Senior USFS competitors. Adult Hockey News

Mike Duffey Adult Hockey Director

New Things Happening in our Adult Leagues (5 Divisions)

Copper Division (Divsion 5)
We have 6 Copper Teams. Illumina is the newest team member to our Golden West League. Heading up the team is Captain is Brian Steffy. Most of the players work for Illumina, a Bio Tech Company close to the rink. They also have a skating club which is a lot of fun.  My
old roommate Roger West is playing in on team and has been coming out for our Adult Clinic. Roger and  Brian both played a big part in making this team happen . This is the very first hockey team for many the Illumina players.

Bronze Division (Division 4)
We have 8 teams in this Bronze Division. We moved Captain Chuck Hasel’s Thundering Herd from Copper to Bronze. We added players Jeff Ramsey andLogan Monje. We’ll miss Dan Eldert(Goalie for Herd)  who is going back to home to Massachusetts.  The herd was dominating the Copper Division so we bumped them up. This Division is a very high level and I think in many ways are as good as Silver Division.

Silver Divison(Divsion 3)
We now have 10 teams in this Silver Division. Games are on Tuesday and Wednesday Night.  We added 2 teams to this Division, the Pylons and Iceotopes. The Pylons have some Ex- Youth Jaguar Coaches Geoff Leibl, Mark Hertz, Doug Frost, Randy Hoy,and Paul Smigilani. These coaches have done a lot for youth ice hockey players in San Diego County. Pylons Captain is Dwayne Stupack. The Iceotopes are joing this Silver Division with a lot of Waynes World players. The Captain is Tom Scutti.

Gold Divsion(Divsion 2)
We have a very Competitive Monday Night League with 6 Teams. We have a new team called the “Bison”. Peter Dursi is leading this team with ½ Eagles and bringing in a handful of new players with Goalie Corrie Woolcott. The Bisons have a new upcoming player Brandon Beltz who played for the Portland Winter Hawks.

Platinum Divsion(Division 1)
For the Spring/Summer season we have gone from 7 to 6 teams to keep this league extremely competitive. This division is San Diego’s highest level of play. We combined the Eskimos Brothers with Johnson effect with Dean Fox in net.  In some ways it’s like we’re doing a draft. All games are Thursday Night. Come out and watch the fastest Hockey in Town in this Division 1 League. Most of the players in this Division either played Pro’s, College, or just great athletes.

Small note: We really appreciate the great attitudes towards each
other and having a fun and safe place to enjoy the greatest game of
ice hockey.
