Whether you are stepping onto the rink for the first time or returning after years away, we make it easy to get moving. Our facility is designed for skaters of all ages and levels to enjoy their sports!

Helpful Tip

Arrive at least 20–30 minutes before your scheduled session to allow plenty of time for parking, check-in, and lacing up your skates!

San Diego’s Most Convenient Rink 

UTC Ice offers a uniquely San Diego skating experience: a bright, welcoming rink at the heart of Westfield UTC. Families, beginners, and seasoned skaters love the energy here: friendly staff, elevated amenities, and a location that turns every skate session into a day-out destination.

  • On-site pro shop for gear, sharpening, and essentials 

Parking Info

Plan your arrival with ease. Westfield UTC recently updated its parking policy to offer one hour of free self-parking.

Friendly Note

UTC Ice Sports Center customers can receive validation for a total of 4 hours of free parking. After these 4 hours, parking is charged at $2 for each additional hour, up to a $15 daily maximum.

On-Site Amenities

Beyond the ice, our facility and the surrounding Westfield UTC center offer a premier experience with everything you need for a comfortable visit.

Ted Edman

Specialization:

USA Hockey Level 4 Coach, UTC Ice Operations & Program Leadership, Hockey Program Development, Skating Operations, Team Coordination, Athlete Development, Facility Management

About:

Ted leads the day-to-day operations of UTC Ice and oversees all skating and hockey programs. He joined the rink in 2012 as a senior in high school and has grown with the facility through every phase of its development.

About:

Tamaria oversees customer service, scheduling, daily operations and supports skaters, families, programs, and staff. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from New York University. A Pushcart Prize nominee, Tamaria also brings a lifelong connection to the rink: She started figure skating here at age four.

Heather Cristobal

Specialization:

USFS, PSA, ISI, U.S. Ice Rink Association Member, Figure Skating Instruction, Learn to Skate, Choreography, Competition Preparation, Off-Ice Training

About:

Heather directs all figure skating programs, including Learn to Skate, shows, and competitions. She is a member of USFS, PSA, ISI, and the U.S. Ice Rink Association. With 10 years of coaching experience, Heather has trained skaters from beginner to advanced competition levels. She is a USFS medalist and former Regional, Sectional, and Junior National competitor with a degree in Biological Anthropology.

Nick Carlotto

USA Hockey Level 4 Coach, UTC Piranhas Program Director, Hockey Program Leadership, Player Development, Skill Progression, Team Culture, Athlete Mentorship

About:

Nick directs the UTC Piranhas with a development-first approach rooted in years of coaching across multiple levels, including the San Diego Saints and La Jolla Country Day. A Level 4 USA Hockey Coach and former AAA, juniors, and collegiate player, Nick brings a deep understanding of skill progression and team culture. Since joining UTC Ice in 2021, Nick has helped shape a program where athletes are challenged, supported, and excited to grow, whether pursuing competitive hockey or building lifelong confidence on the ice.

Mike Duffey

Adult Hockey Programming, USA Hockey Coaching & Officiating, Hockey Development, League Operations, Skills Training, Competitive Hockey Leadership

About:

Mike leads adult hockey programming and has shaped San Diego hockey for over 30 years. He is a Level 5 USA Hockey Coach and Level 4 USA Hockey Referee. Mike played professional roller and ice hockey for the San Diego Gulls and San Diego Barracudas.
