It’s been an exciting couple of months for our Piranha Hockey. We’ve been playing some great in-house hockey as well as battling it out with teams from Aliso Viejo and even Iceoplex’s Tournament Team. A bunch of our Mites even played in the Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by Iceoplex. Both Iceoplex and Kroc staff had plenty of great things to say about our teams talent, ability and even how great our hockey parents are!

Saturday December 15th at 7am our Mites have been invited to Kroc to play against their up and coming team. It’ll be a great match and will test the skill level of our players.

Adult Hockey

Mike Duffey Adult Hockey Director

The inside scoop

Now the “Gladiators” formally “Stemedica” named after their company sponsor, the Howe family, was formed just 3 short years ago.
Derek/ Roger and Maynard Howe, Father/Son and Brother, ages 42/63 and 67 respectively.  Maynard coached Division 1 USIU College Hockey which was ranked top 5 in U.S. Roger still fights in Judo. The Howe family has a deep history of hockey being that they all played in Minnesota starting at a very young age.  After moving to San Diego as Adults they originally formed a competitive team at the San Diego Ice Arena league in Mira Mesa.  After years of playing there the 3 of them decided to move to IceTown Adult League because of its great reputation for being a player’s league. They contacted Randy Gerson who was then the Adult Hockey Director of IceTown who was committed to help the Howe’s field the rest of the team with draft players including himself.  Derek Howe became captain and ran the team for several seasons. They won the division in their 2nd season. Stemedica was always one of the top teams every season following. After stepping down as Adult Hockey Director, Derek Howe asked Randy if he could take over as Captain. Randy accepted the challenge. The Howe’s eventually stepped down to the Copper league to form the Old Rangers. Randy stayed on as captain, recruited new players to help win back the Silver League championship they had once won before.  The rest is history.
