Piranha Hockey

UTC Ice Piranhas Mites take Silver at Cal State Games President’s Day Weekend.
The Piranhas opened competition on Friday morning with a 10-7 win over the SDIA Oilers 2 team.  The team took a hard loss on Saturday against the California Cougars. The Piranhas battled back with its best defensive game on Sunday and a win over the SDIA Oilers 1 team to earn a spot in the Gold Medal game.  Despite bringing another top defensive effort in the rematch against the Cougars, the Piranhas take home Silver.  Brendan Dunphy lead the team with 17 goals on the tournament.  Several players also represented the Piranhas in the skills competition; Bennett Park – Break Away Shooter; Emma Rudy – Fastest Skater; Alex Rosik – target shot; Creighton Sieders – Break Away Goalie.
Congratulations to all the Piranhas Mites: Christopher Brady, Peyton Dailey-Ray, Brendan Dunphy, Jackson Gould, Ian Martin, Bennett Park, Sean Ochoa, Alex Rosik, Nolan Rosik, Emma Rudy, Creighton Seiders, Abigail Shaull, Aaron Simmons, and Andrew Smeltzer.  Coaches: Tiffany Rosik, Scott Smeltzer, Ray Rosik.

San Diego District Hockey

The San Diego District Hockey League is going into its second season and UTC Ice is proud to be part of its growth. The league has enjoyed great success this past year due some very exciting ideas.

Number one: It is a location based team roster. Depending on which school district you live in will determine what area of San Diego you will represent and which rink will be your home rink. The hope is teams will be made up of kids who, for the most part, go to the same schools or schools that are relatively close. Eventually with the growth of its popularity the District League will be made up of teams that represent their own high or middle school.

Number two: A NO check option. In All other leagues when your child moves to Bantam they are forced to check. Checking is an important strategic part of the game, but can be very dangerous. If you’re not planning on your child playing for a college one day or don’t have aspirations of going pro or semi pro, the non-checking Jr. Varsity team is for you. Both Varsity and Jr. Varsity are made up of kids in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. Jr. Varsity does not have checking and Varsity does. UTC Ice will house a Jr. Varsity team this season.
