A Word from the General Manager and Youth Hockey Director

It’s been a record breaking couple of months at UTC Ice. We had more public session skaters visit our rink over the holidays than ever before. Lots of new kids enrolled in skating school and our birthday parties have been extremely popular! Needless to say we are all very happy here at UTC Ice to see everyone enjoying our rink!

Sochi 2014

We are fast approaching the Sochi Olympics. We’ll be routing on Team USA as we cruise through the medal count. We are especially looking forward to all the figure skating events and hockey games!!!

Piranha Hockey

UTC_Ice_Piranhas_logos.png

Piranha Hockey is stronger than ever at UTC Ice. We now have a new Mite team making our total Metro teams 6. Two of our teams, Mite 1 and Squirt 1 represent us at various tournaments in and out of state.

SCAHA

Most of you know it has been a few years since UTC Ice had a SCAHA program. Well this coming year we are applying for a new SCAHA number. Although nothing is ever definite until the deal is signed, our rink will meet SCAHA’s most important criteria for approval, our in-house program. We have 6 teams now, 2 that play tournaments, and we predict we’ll have between 9 and 10 teams for the 2014/2015 season. Not to mention we have 45 kids in our Academy that will all one day become Piranha Mini Mites!

So what made this possible? Our coaching staff! The dedicated team of coaches at UTC Ice has helped grow this program incredibly fast. To think 2 years ago we only had 2 in-house teams made up of many different ages and now we have serious tournament teams. Way to go UTC Ice Coaches!!!

Hockey Summer Camps

This summer our hockey camps will be like nothing you’ve seen in San Diego. We plan on having designated weeks for each age group coached by current and past professional players! Camps will include beginners through Midget and up. We can’t say who the coaches are yet, but I know we will have mad sign ups. There will be on and off ice training as well as strategy sessions and hockey movies for the weeks we have the little guys. We are strategically scheduling our camp weeks so we don’t conflict with the Kings or Ducks camps.  Stay tuned for more information. You will want to be a part of this I assure you!

Good Luck at Cal State Games!

This year UTC Ice is being represented at the California State Games by a Mite B and Squirt B teams. Coach Adam, Ray and Scott have been working their team hard all year and are looking forward to the challenge of the games. Congratulations go out to Tiffany Rosik who is the new Mite B Tournament Head Coach, Cody Brown, Assistant Coach and manger Jeremy Simmons. We look forward to seeing how your team does in their very first tournament.

Cal State Games are Presidents Day Weekend, February 14th to the 17th. UTC Ice will host the Squirt B’s and a few Squirts A games and our Mites will play over at SDIA. Come out and support your Piranhas!!!

Cactus Cup

Our Squirt B Team just got back from the Cactus Cup Tournament in Phoenix Arizona. They fought their hearts out and played every game with their chins up. Although we did not win they stayed in great spirits and never quit! They brought home new skills, strong friendships with their team mates and I think the parents had a great time as well!
