SPECIAL NEEDS Hockey

My name is Isaiah Granet and I’m 14 years old.  I am a competitive ice hockey player.  I love the game of hockey and have been playing since I was 3 years old.  I wanted to create a way that all kids, despite their disabilities could enjoy the love of the game that I feel so passionate about.

With my mom’s help, we have created a non profit special needs ice hockey program that meets each Saturday since July 2013.  I run and organize the clinic for special needs kids ages 5-12 years old.   UTC ice rink generously donates a half hour each Saturday for our clinic.  We now have 19 kids that come each week!   Adult hockey coaches and my hockey friends come and volunteer their time; they love mentoring the kids.

We were able to get the law firm Paul Hastings, LLP to donate their time and help make us an official 501C3.   We are now part of a national organization called ASHA(American Special Hockey Association).

However, in order to get to the program to the next level we need to buy uniforms and equipment for the kids.  I have been able to purchase helmets with my own money, but we need more.

Any donation, large or small would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your consideration.

SLED HOCKEY IS COMING TO SAN DIEGO!

sledhockey2.gif

UTC Ice is proud to sponsor San Diego Sled Hockey whose mission is to provide a USA Hockey and U.S. Paralympic recognized sled hockey program including clinics, recreational and competitive teams, and resources for those interested in pursuing national, international, and Paralympic competition for San Diego based disabled youth and adults.

SDSH’s goal is to give disabled athletes the ability to try sled hockey beginning the first week of September without any upfront costs.  This means SDSH must provide sleds, sticks, helmets, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, and shin guards to every athlete who comes out to play, totally approximately $20,000 in equipment.  SDSH also needs coaches, volunteers, and to spread the word to the disabled athlete community.

YOU can help SDSH achieve their goal by donating funds, donating equipment, volunteering your time, or by spreading the word!  By giving a gift of one sled at $605, one set of sled hockey sticks at $70, one piece of standard hockey equipment, one hour of your time, or by sharing this information with family and friends you can bring the joy of hockey to a physically or mobility impaired neighbor.  You can drop off donated equipment at the UTC Ice Ticket Office, donate money in person at the UTC Ice Ticket Office (online coming soon), or find out more information or sign up to coach, volunteer, or participate at SanDiegoSledHockey.blogspot.com.

Thank you for helping us provide hockey to our disabled community!  Stay tuned on our progress and come try a sled for yourself!

All the best,

Founder, San Diego Sled Hockey
