What’s New?!

General Manager Matt Smith

UTC Ice is always updating and improving our facility. Some of you may have noticed the 2 large dehumidification systems installed above the Hockey Coach’s room and across from the Zamboni area. These 2 machines will vastly improve the quality of our ice by reducing the moisture in the air and therefore making it easier for the chillers to keep the rink cold. It will also help reduce our energy foot print. We are hoping to see them really pay off this summer when it is the most difficult time of year to maintain good ice.

We’ve installed really cool seating and tables along the side of the boards in front of the skate rental counter. Now it will be even more enjoyable to watch your young ones in Skating Academy or to cheer on your favorite hockey teams!

While you’re enjoying activities on the ice from our new seats, check out the new flat screen TV above the skate rental counter. Watch NHL live or World and Olympic figure skating competitions!

We hope you enjoy our new look and amenities. Look for more updates and improvements to follow.

Check out our new online store! Now you can get all your favorite UTC Ice and Piranha gear delivered to you. In our store itself we’ve added many new items and as always when you are a part of our Skating Academy or Piranha hockey receive a %10 discount on all in-store merchandise!!!

Piranha Tournament Team

Our Piranha Tournament Team banded together to compete in their very first tournament, Cal State Games. Although we did not prevail, our young athletes learned a lot about team effort, sportsmanship and adversity. As they strive to improve and chemistry develops amongst our players we look forward to becoming a Sand Diego premier hockey club!

Memorial Weekend Tournament

The Piranha Tournament Team is bound for Escondido Iceoplex this May at their Memorial Weekend Tournament. Piranha parents look soon for sign up and registration for this exciting event. Practices will start April 16th and will be full ice.

Spring is here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about Summer Camp! UTC Ice will be holding two different camps this summer, both Advanced Training camp and Jr. Summer Camp. Summer Camps will be held for 7 weeks starting on June 17th and ending on August 9th. We will not have any camp the week of July 1st-5th.

Advanced Training Camp is for skaters in Delta level and above. Camp will include freestyle sessions and specialty classes such as spin and stroking. Off ice classes will include ballet, stretching, strength and conditioning training, and more. This camp will improve your skating in all areas and you will be amazed at the improvement you will see!

Jr. Summer Camp is for beginners up to Gamma level and Hockey Skaters! This camp will run 9:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday and include on and off ice activities. Each week will have a different theme to make every day new and exciting! Every day will include a technical skills lesson, a recital class or hockey scrimmage, and free skating time. Off ice will include arts and crafts, movie time, games, prizes, ballet, stretching, and power and strength classes. Lunch will be provided for this camp daily.

UTC Ice presents “Tour the World” our annual ice show. Mark your calendars to come see all the lights, costumes, and props in this exciting production! May 25th will have two performances the Matinee at 2:30PM and the Evening at 7:00PM. Tickets will go on sale in our box office soon!
