From first steps on the ice to advanced training, every skater follows a structured progression through clearly defined levels.
Each stage below aligns with our Tier 1–3 programs, creating a clear path from beginner to advanced skating.

Tier 1 - Strong Basics
Build confidence, balance, and control on the ice. All skaters begin here after completing the Introductory Class.
Two Starting Paths
Skaters begin in one of two groups based on age:
Tier 1
Snowplow SAM (Ages 4 to 6)
A structured program for younger skaters learning the basics of movement, balance, and coordination, helping them develop control, confidence, and consistency as they progress through clearly defined levels.

Tier 1
Basic Skills (Ages 7 to 17)
A structured program for older beginners focused on developing strong skating fundamentals, including balance, edge control, and coordination. Skaters build confidence while progressing through clearly defined.

- Stops, turns, and transitions
- Learn while having fun!
- Forward/backward skating

Progression Through Tier 1
Progress through beginner levels (1–4) at your own pace
Transition into the full Basic Skills pathway
Continue advancing through Levels 1–6 with structured guidance
Skaters advance based on ability, not time, and can move at their own pace.
Some skaters choose to spend additional time at certain levels to build confidence.
Tier 2 - Developmental Building Blocks
After completing Basic 1 to 6, skaters move into more advanced skill development.
This stage introduces freestyle skating, specialized skills, and increased independence on the ice.
Skaters progress through Freeskate 1 to Freeskate 6. Skaters may begin practicing at Freestyle Sessions
Pre-Freeskate acts as the transition into freestyle training, introducing structure, independence, and
foundational elements of jumps and spins.

By Freeskate 4 and above, many skaters begin preparing for competition or skating more independently.
Tier 2
Freeskate Levels
Dedicated ice time designed for skaters to practice, refine skills, and develop routines. These sessions support both independent training and coach-led progression without the distractions of public skating so skaters can improve faster in a focused, distraction-free environment.

Tier 2
Recommended Development Classes
Targeted sessions focused on improving technique, consistency, and performance readiness. These classes help skaters reinforce Freeskate skills while preparing for advancement and testing.

Skaters must complete Basic 1 to 6 or be assessed for placement

Axel Focused Classes
On-ice training designed to apply axel technique in real conditions, focusing on rotation, control, and consistency as skaters begin landing jumps.

IJS Skills and Drills
Advanced training aligned with competitive skating standards, focusing on jump combinations, spin variations, and overall program execution.
